I have been using the Robby wash for about a week now. Nothing could be easier. Just toss it in your load. The laundry comes out smelling fresh and clean ~ no perfume smells because there are no extra chemicals added that we don't need and can be harmful.

Tropical Traditions ~ Atchara ~ Organic Raw Green Papaya ~ GIVEAWAY!! ~ Ends 4/6

What is Atchara? [ot chá ra]

Atchara is a traditional Philippine fermented dish made with unripe raw green papaya, fresh raw ginger root, and other raw ingredients in a vinegar base. As kimchi is to the Koreans, chutney to the Indians, and sauerkraut is to the Germans, so atchara is a traditional fermented dish valued in Philippine culture.

During my years living in the Philippines, I was often served this native dish, especially at holiday gatherings where a LOT of food is traditionally consumed. While most Filipinos probably could not say “why” it was a custom to eat atchara during holiday gatherings, I suspect that the large amount of sweets (mostly rice and coconut based) and the large amount of meats (mostly pork) consumed during the holidays probably contributed well to the concept of having a natural digestive aid in this fermented papaya dish. Many Filipinos are not wealthy enough to eat meat regularly outside of these special events. Add that to the fact that most people living in the rural areas do not have refrigeration, and therefore consume meat in larger quantities during these holiday and festive gatherings (such as “lechon” - a roasted whole pig), atchara became a strong tradition at the meals of these events, as their digestive systems were not naturally used to digesting large amounts of meats on a regular basis. The two main drawbacks I saw to the product were that it was usually made with white refined sugar and white distilled vinegar in modern times.

Knowing the nutritional value of papaya and fermented foods, Marianita and I began a quest to make a truly raw fermented atchara (as it once probably was years ago) that could take its rightful place in the market of other traditionally fermented vegetable dishes such as sauerkraut, kimchi, and chutney, which are well-known around the world. It was a journey that took more than 5 years to develop, since this was strictly a “homemade” type of product in the Philippines. One of our biggest challenges was developing a raw coconut water vinegar that could be consistently produced from the water of our organic coconuts. We knew this would add tremendous nutritional value to the dish. We also wanted only the best possible ingredients that the Philippines had to offer, as you will read below.

So finally, after more than 5 years of development, we bring to you Tropical Traditions Atchara from the Philippines, which we believe will soon become the most beloved fermented native dish the world has yet seen!

I know that fermented foods are very healthy for you gut. Repopulating the digestive system with live cultures, which balance your flora - promoting healthy digestion and immune system. That is why I drink kefir and eat yogurts. There are many fermented foods to choose from - fermented provides the good bacteria that wen want & need.

The jar reads - as kimchi is to the Koreans, chutney is to the Indians, and sauerkraut is to the Germans, atchara is to the Phillippine culture. So I thought, I'll just use it like I do chutney - with curry.

When I sampled the atchara, it learned I could not use it as I would chutney. It has it's own flavor and is only comparable in that it is that culture's fermented condiment.

I was at first wondering how I would use atchara. But I have found many uses and am really enjoying it! The first way I tried it was at lunch on a box pizza I made - oh my it was so good. I just lightly sprinkled it on. Second was on hotdogs , recommended by a friend - that was good too. Next was on a noodle bowl & my brother tried it on ramen noodle and loved it.

And it's super good for you too & USDA certified organic.

		Materials
		Corn Resin The shelf life of corn resin is similar to synthetic plastics. It will not break down during regular wear and use. In a composite environment, corn resin is 99% biodegradable tp carbon dioxide and water within 365 days. Since it’s made from corn, it comes from a renewable resource. Conventional plastics use an estimated 200,000 barrels of oil a day in the United States alone but because corn resin is bio-based, it therefore uses no oil resources in production
		Organic Cotton The majority of cotton is grown with toxic chemicals. Conventional cotton requires the use of enormous amounts of pesticides - 25% of all insecticides and 10% of all pesticides - which have a huge environmental impact. It is one of the most environmentally damaging crops to grow, as about 84 million pounds of pesticides are sprayed on US cotton crops alone in one year. Some of these chemicals are considered to be the most toxic chemicals in the world. Organic cotton is grown using methods and materials that have a low impact on the environment and is grown without the use of toxic pesticides and synthetic fertilizers.
		Bamboo Bamboo is considered eco-friendly based on its properties as 1) a natural (nonsynthetic) fiber, 2) a quick-growth plant (it's in the grass family) that sequesters greenhouse gases, and 3) a renewable plant that can grow back after its three to five year harvesting period. It largely doesn't need chemicals, pesticides, or fertilizers to grow.
		Mineral Crystal Most lenses in the medium price range of watches are made from plexiglass, a type of synthetic plastic. Sprout™ lenses are made from Mineral crystal which is a type of glass made from sand. It can technically be recycled.
		Mercury Free Battery Mercury is actually a neurotoxin, which is harmful to both animals and humans. Exposure to even small amounts of mercury over a long period may cause negative health effects including damage to the brain, kidney, lungs and a developing baby. I thought the author put it perfectly when he said "I know lots of good things happened in this decade. People fell in love, babies were born, great art & literature were created." Meaning that not much in the news was good at all.

The first part of the book is taking a factual look at the headlines that dominated our ten year timeline. The second part of the book titled "Starting Over", takes a look at how, and why we got ourselves into such a mess & why there is hope ahead. I like hope.

This is a non-partisan perspective and is a quick read that packs quite a punch. Loaded with tons of information and insight. You walk away feeling more educated. I read this in full during a trip to the ER.

Great book - I'm glad I own it. It's a great historical reference - one that will be good to show curious grandchildren and such.

aden + anais ~ Classic Swadle 4 pack ~ GIVEAWAY!!! ~ Ends 4/02

I remember when I was expecting Julien, my Mom & I discussing Muslin baby blankets. We talked about how nice muslin feels & how light, which would be perfect for Summertime.

We tend to have colicky babies in our family, so we swaddle. Keeping a fussy baby wrapped snugly helps.

In 2002, the medical journal Pediatrics published a study that explained why babies who are swaddled sleep more peacefully by preventing spontaneous movements (called reflex motion) from waking them up continually during the night. The same year, the Journal of Applied Physiology wrote that swaddled infants stay in REM sleep (the most restorative, deepest sleep) longer than those who were not. There is growing evidence every year that swaddling may indirectly help prevent SIDS, as well.

Swaddling is said to be as familiar to babies as it is to their moms because it recreates the secure and cozy feeling of the womb -- and using swaddles made of natural cotton muslin only enhances that blissful feeling. Muslin is a finely-woven breathable fabric believed to have originated in Bangladesh during the Middle Ages. It's delicate, yet durable weave, makes the fabric stretchy, and therefore ideal for swaddling, as the natural give" allows the blanket to be tucked snugly around a baby without being overly restrictive.

The lightweight muslin also permits air to circulate around the baby's body, while still providing comfort and warmth without the worry that the baby may overheat in moderate weather. Cotton muslin is also a workhorse fabric, in that wraps woven from this natural fiber stands up to repeated washings only becoming softer -- and better -- with age.

Of course, all the scientific evidence in the world is no substitute for the experience of millions of Mothers through uncountable generations: that swaddling in muslin is one of the most loving, gentle, restorative acts a mother can perform for her child.
