Tropical Traditions ~ Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil ~ #Rafflecopter GIVEAWAY!!! ~ Ends 7/17

Ok, where do I start...

I am going to pull information I have found and trusted regarding coconut oil. It's so much more than a cooking oil. But let's start there.

Cooking: I use two oils in the kitchen - Olive Oil & Coconut Oil. Olive oil is good when kept cool - salads, drizzling, dipping, etc. Not good hot -heat makes olive oil susceptible to oxidative damage and also changes an alkaline oil to an acidic one - not good. So I try to cook in coconut oil.. Polyunsaturated fats, which include common vegetable oils such as corn, soy, safflower, sunflower and canola, are absolutely
the worst oils to cook with.

In your body:
I was asked to remove the health related section of this post.

The FDA does not want us to discuss the health benefits of coconut oil on a page where it is being sold or given away.

You CAN, however, read about the health benefits of coconut oil here : http://coconutoil.com :)  It's good stuff!

Good luck!

Beauty Benefits:

Hair: Nourish stressed hair by rubbing from roots to ends an hour before showering. Use a small amount rubbed through hair to de-frizz & add shine.

Scalp: Part hair one section at a time and rub coconut oil into your scalp. A light application is all you need.
Run a wide tooth comb through your hair to comb out any tangles then put on a shower cap. Leave over night & wash as normal in the morning. Repeat as necessary.

Acne: Clean face as you normally would, pat dry then apply a light coating on your skin. Leave on overnight (allow skin at least 15 minutes to absorb the oil before going to bed). Really helps!

Personal Lubricant: well, you can can figure this one out, but I don't want to put anything on my lovey parts that contain any chemicals. Food grade, 100% natural. Yep.

How I do Coconut Oil:

I get it any way I can. I cook with it, & use it on my skin, but one big place I get it is by the spoonful.  I leave it out so I can see it, and as I walk through the kitchen, I pop a spoonful in my mouth. I probably do that 3 or 4 times a day. I like the taste & it just melts in my mouth. Freezing spoonfuls is good too but I always forget to do that.

I add it to blended drinks & smoothies.

When we are coming down sick, I push it. Kids get spoonfuls, we get it in our tea - around the clock. It helps boost & build us back to health.

My dog gets coconut oil & she loves it! I know that it was coconut oil that healed her back side. She for years had hair loss, itching, & redness on her rump. It was ugly and she was miserable. I took her to two different vets, who both tried a couple different things. I started her on coconut oil & kept it up for almost a year. That and making sure to start her flea treatment early in the year has completely healed her skin. No hair loss. No itching. You can tell how much better she feels!

It's one constant that I always have.

Tropical Traditions is a cult classic. Dig deep into the health community and Tropical Traditions is regarded as the best.  Why?  -

( from TropicalTraditions.com) This Tropical Traditions Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil is a truly unrefined coconut oil. This coconut oil is made on Mt. Banahaw and surrounding areas from organic coconuts. Coconuts are used fresh (within 24-48 hours of harvest) from small family farms on Mt. Banahaw and other rural places in Quezon Province, the coconut capital of the Philippines. Only the highest quality coconuts are hand-picked from each harvest. The volcanic soil of Mt. Banahaw makes these organic coconuts some of the most nutritionally rich coconuts in the world! Testing done in independent laboratories on coconut oil antioxidants reveals higher levels of phenolic antioxidants than other coconut oils.  The fresh coconut meat is shredded (wet milled), and then cold-pressed using the water from inside the coconuts to make coconut milk. The milk is then allowed to sit for about half a day, while the oil naturally separates from the heavier water. The oil is then filtered from the curds (coconut solids). No chemical or high-heat treatment is used, and this oil contains no trans fatty acids. We do NOT mass produce this oil. It is made by families who are coconut farmers using old-fashioned traditional methods that have been used in the Philippines for hundreds of years. Our coconut trees and family producers are certified organic according to strict USDA standards. The families who produce the oil are also trained according to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards and re-certified each year. This high-grade Virgin Coconut Oil has a long shelf life due to the high antioxidant properties. The Gold Label Standard is our highest standard for Virgin Coconut Oil.

Please note: I am not authorized by the FDA to make health claims, all information provided above is my personal opinion.

Mowhawk Home ~ Area Rug ~ #Rafflecoper GIVEAWAY!!! ~ Ends 7/15

I've always had a thing for rugs.

I remember going to auctions with my parents, and a good day meant coming home with a vintage, preferably floral, rug.

Rugs are like accessories to an outfit - they can change the whole look of a room. You get tired of one look, switch out the rug. That's what we're working on now. I'm tired of the praline color I have and will be moving to a mushroom color. The rug I picked - Forte Dark Cocoa,Taupe and Coconut 8 ft. x 10 ft works really well with the new colors I've chosen.

Now, if we ever get to it. I've been working to get my Grandmother's new house ready for her to move home from Texas. We've been working since February, so I'm taking a nice break from any remodeling type of work for the Summer. Her new home looks really great - mine will just have to wait!

W

While I can't show you a picture of the rugs placement in my home, I can tell you that Mohawk Home is the best. The best quality, best designs, best selection, & all that comes with great customer service.

I have
I have four Mohawk rugs in my home right now. The kitchen rugs at my Grandma's are Mohawk. I guess I like Mohawk. And... still made in America!

SmartKlean ~ Laundry Kit ~ Giveaway ~ Ends 7/14 ~ SmartKlean Stain Remover Launch!!

....

My new mantra for life is "Less, but better". SmartKlean laundry products make my laundry fit into that mantra with ease.

I learned that traditional laundry detergents were not for me & my family, when I delved into cloth diapering a few years ago.

The laundry detergent companies will have you believing you're wrapping yourself in fresh cut Spring flowers, strewn across a babbling brook, with a hint of lemon. The truth is,detergents saturate your laundry with chemicals. Here are just some of those chemicals -

Phenols- Deemed toxic by the National Health Institute, phenols can cause damage to the lungs, heart, kidneys and liver. They are very easily absorbed into the skin, making them especially dangerous.

Optical brighteners- These trick the eye by altering ultraviolet wavelengths to make clothes look whiter. Studies have shown these agents are extremely toxic to fish and can cause mutations in bacteria. They can also trigger strong allergic reactions in humans when exposed to sunlight.

Surfactants-A surfactant is a substance which basically binds to oily particles and carries them away with water during washing. These are what make our clothes clean when we wash them. Surfactants can be natural or synthetic. Natural surfactants are generally safe for people and the water supply, but chemical surfactants are not. Commercial laundry detergents are loaded with synthetic surfactants.

Fragrance-Artificial fragrances in laundry products are a strong irritant. The chemicals in fragrance additives can cause itchy, watery eyes and stinging nostrils. But the effects go much deeper than that. Chemical fragrances can trigger asthma attacks and aggravate allergies. They can even affect your thinking, making concentration and coordination difficult. All of these irritations show their worst in sensitive individuals, although no one is immune to the effects of these chemicals.

Now, let's get back to the less is better thing. That's where SmartKlean comes in. It's a piece of cake!

Seriously. Pop the the SmartKlean ball in your washer and walk away. Other than sunning your ball every once in awhile, it's a no brainer.

The SmartKlean laundry system is -

Economical - Effectively washes 365 loads of laundry without using any soap or detergents. Replaces fabric softener and dryer sheets. Helps to conserve water and energy.

People-Friendly - Safe for the whole family! The active components inside are derived from Earth minerals and are formulated to leave zero residues behind. Ideal for sensitive skin.

Earth-Friendly - Leaves no trace in our aquatic ecosystems. With its extensive lifespan, it also reduces packaging waste in our landfills. Biodegradable ceramics and recyclable enclosure.

SmartKlean is a feel good product. I know that the laundry that outfit my family with is just cloth - that's it! Healthy!

And the smell! It's actual fresh - like it just came in off the line hanging in the sun & breeze. I LOVE it! Fragrance of commercial detergents smells dirty to me now.
